– Terms of Employment: Full-time, Permanent

– Work Schedule: 30 ~ 35 hours per week, scheduled between Monday and Saturday in accordance with the clinic’s regular business hours

– Wage: $39.00 per hour

Overtime will be compensated in accordance with the applicable provisions of the British Columbia Employment Standards Act.

– Benefits: Vacation pay of 4% of gross wages, provided in accordance with provincial employment standards.

– Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

 

The Certified Dental Assistant will perform duties including, but not limited to:

•           Prepare patients and treatment areas for dental procedures and assist the dentist by passing instruments, managing materials, and maintaining an efficient clinical workflow.

•           Clean, sterilize, and prepare dental instruments and operatory equipment following infection prevention and control requirements.

•           Arrange treatment rooms and ensure all necessary dental supplies, instruments, and materials are readily available before procedures.

•           Obtain dental X-rays and ensure images are properly processed while complying with radiation safety procedures.

•           Provide preventive dental care such as polishing teeth, applying fluoride, and placing dental sealants when indicated.

•           Obtain preliminary dental impressions to support diagnosis and treatment planning.

•           Educate patients on proper oral care practices and provide instructions for care following dental treatment.

•           Update patient charts and support front-office operations, including booking appointments, preparing invoices, handling payments, and monitoring dental supplies.

•           Carry out permitted intra-oral duties such as removing sutures, applying topical anesthetic and desensitizing products, placing and removing temporary fillings, positioning and removing rubber dams, conducting pulp vitality tests, and performing periodontal assessments and charting in compliance with applicable regulations.

•           Supervising and providing guidance to other Certified Dental Assistants, Dental Assistants, and dental students, ensuring their duties are performed safely and in accordance with clinical protocols and regulatory standards.

 

– Skills and Qualifications:

•           Completion of an 8-month to 1-year accredited college program in dental assisting, or completion of secondary school with on-the-job dental assisting training is required

•           Certification by the National Dental Assisting Examination Board (required to perform intra-oral duties).

•           three or more years of relevant experience in a dental clinical setting is required

•           Registration and licensure with the appropriate provincial regulatory authority in British Columbia is required
