JOB DESCRIPTION

Employer: Canadian Masonry Contractors Association (on behalf of employer members)
Position: Bricklayers / Brick and Stone Masons
Terms of Employment: Full-time / Permanent
Location: Ontario, Canada
Multiple locations including, but not limited to: Southwest Ontario (Cambridge/Kitchener/Waterloo area), Greater Toronto Area, Central and Eastern Ontario.

Hours of Work: 40 hours/week plus overtime as applicable
Language: English
Benefits: Per applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement (dependent on specific employer):
• BACU Brick Province Wide ICI Collective Agreement; or
• OPC Brick Provincial Collective Agreement

Salary: Union wages are $38.22 to $50.54 per the applicable collective agreement listed above.

Duties:

• Preparing and laying brick, concrete block, stone or installing other prefabricated masonry units to construct and/or repair structures such as walls, foundations, partitions, arches, fireplaces, and chimneys, in industrial, commercial, institutional, or residential markets
• Reading sketches and blueprints to calculate materials required.
• Cutting and trimming bricks and concrete blocks to specification using hand and power tools.
• Laying bricks, stone, or similar materials to provide veneer facing to walls or other surfaces.
• Laying blocks, brick, stone, and installing wall accessories (connectors, flashing, etc.) in structural masonry systems
• Applying Air/Vapour Barriers to construct a structural masonry wall system.
• Restoring and/or clean existing masonry structures, including historical masonry

Requirements:

• Experience as a Mason or Bricklayer, preferably with a Certificate of Apprenticeship or a Red Seal Certification, or the ability to obtain.
• At least 5600 to 6000 hours of experience as a Mason/Bricklayer or equivalent, including on the job and in-school.
• Some secondary school completion.
• Ability to calculate and lay-out jobs, including;
o Basic blueprint reading;
o Setting up the masonry job site and personal work area; and
o Laying out the first course of masonry, calculating and building corners and building leads.
• A valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain.
• Ability to travel out of town and stay overnight, as required.
• Must be able to work at heights and pass mandatory safety certification requirements.
