Responsibilities

Tasks

  • Assess the current status of a given area for sustainable forest management
  • Conduct forest inventory cruises, surveys and field measurement
  • Conduct ongoing inspections to ensure the development of good quality forest crops
  • Display spatial data using Geographical Information Systems (GIS)
  • Help forest managers in planning access routes and forest roads
  • Measure the density of crop species and the amount of competition present to determine the need for tending operations
  • Monitor the effectiveness of silvicultural practices
  • Supervise forest inventory cruises, surveys and field measurement
  • Supervise technical functions in silvicultural operation
  • Supervise the construction of access routes and forest roads
  • Use photogrammetric and mapping techniques
  • Enforce environmental, fire safety and accident prevention regulation
  • Develop and maintain computer databases
  • Provide technical support to forestry research
  • Operate snowmobiles
  • Operate all-terrain vehicles (ATV)
  • Establish and maintain required environment
  • Verify processing conditions and work area
